Well...Mother Nature decided that even though it's spring, what we really needed among a global pandemic and increasing stay-at-home orders, was one more snowstorm.

Luckily, I had the perfect antidote - in the form of a Key West romance.

And since we're all under a quarantine or otherwise self-isolating, I had the perfect excuse to do nothing but read this scorcher.

I first saw this book on Twitter—the author, Priscilla Oliveras, was promoting its upcoming release—and I fell in love with the cover alone. Then I found out it was set in Key West, where I vacationed once and loved, and I was completely sold. I didn’t care that it was a romance, a genre I seldom read. The story sounded cute and everything about it seemed perfect.

And then I saw it would be coming to BookishFirst. Well, I signed up for copy as soon as I was able—I simply couldn’t wait for release day or my incoming pre-order. Yeah, it's the best 2,000 points I spent on that site so far.

And you know what? This book was absolutely adorable. My expectations were completely exceeded.

It's got all the essential elements:

Dazzling hot couple? Check.

Irresistible meet-cute? Si.

What? There's only one bed?? Oh you betcha.

Sexual tension that sizzles off the page. Oh. My. Yes.

Sara Vance, a successful social media influencer, arrives in Key West to celebrate her mother’s victory over cancer. Only, her boyfriend was supposed to be there with her. When she learns he’s ditching her, Sara recruits Key West firefighter Luis Navarro to pretend to be her boyfriend.

It’s only supposed to be for one week—she just wants her mom to have a stress free vacation and to believe her life is on track. But then sparks between her and Luis begin to fly...

Usually, when I read straightforward romances, I tend to cringe. But this one stole my heart, pardon the pun. Author Priscilla Oliveras paints such a lush portrait of the island, you’re instantly transported to Mallory Square, watching the sunset dip into the ocean. Sara and Luis sizzle and the only thing disappointing is the last page—because you don’t want their story to end.

I can’t recommend this one enough. It’s the perfect summer read. Seriously, people, go grab yourself a copy and the nearest paper to fan yourself with.

Thank you so much to BookishFirst, Priscilla Oliveras, and Kensington Books for this review copy. It's one of my new favorites.

And I can't wait for the sequel.

Island Affair is on sale April 28, 2020.
